Hello readers!
My name is Symphony and I was born and raised in the United States of America.
At the age of nine my family made a major move that impacted the way I saw the world. I went from a fast pace city life to country living - an hour away from where I grew up.
I was removed from the comfort of family and friends, to having no one. And it didn't help that the town was racially divided.
I come from a pretty large family where everyone has large personalities. They taught me to be confident, resourseful, and to always put purpose first.
While I was no education buff, I did fall in love with food through baking and pastries. I would watch how my family would make the best dishes that everyone enjoyed. They would turn meniscal ingredients into family favorites. I realized that the cooks were respected, admired, and always invited to functions. The passion pushed me into attending Johnson & Wales University after graduating high school. I studied Baking & Pastry and graduated with an Associate of Applied Science degree.
I learned so much with each course I studied, but not without failure. I drunk alcohol excessively and was placed on a probationary period in school.
When I returned to school after my suspension, I discovered a deep interest in my Global Ethics class. My professor, who was also an attorney made me open my eyes and see a bigger picture in deciding right versus wrong. I can remember him presenting the class with problems and making us defend both sides. We had to be able to defend side A, as well as side B. He taught us that we cannot be one sided and remain ethical. That semester changed me and how I thought about things.
Since graduating, I have started a commercial kitchen cleaning business — failed, but I tried.
I've also worked in banking, investigating debit card fraud. This role taught me about technical systems.
I've earned a Class A CDL, allowing me to travel the country while working. The experience introduced me to the world of transportation and logistics and how massive the industry is.
I have dabbled in substitute teaching, managing students, and lesson plans.
I am capable of doing many things, but none of these things makes me happy.
So I've decided to do what does, writing.
And I have a lot to share.
Love Symph
